June 6, 2008, 8:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M. at UMASS Boston Campus Center
On June 6, 2008, in collaboration with the Chancellor's Office of the University of Massachusetts - Boston, Smith Leadership Academy will host its 1st Annual Youth Leadership Conference: Enlightening, Engaging and Empowering Boston's Youth.
The topic of this year’s conference is: Stop the Violence: A Youth-Led Dialogue Leading to Peace.
The focus of this year's conference will be to engage middle school students, age 11-14, in a conversation through which they are empowered to identify strategies, both personal and communal, for stemming and eliminating the violence that is plaguing their neighborhoods.
This youth-organized and youth-led conference will include self-assessment questionnaires, workshops, panel discussions and educational components that feature young people and adults who will address self-esteem, relationship violence, gang activity, emotional health, the importance of political action and involvement as well as sessions that focus on leadership development and healthy choices.
