"Inspired by one woman, carried out by a community"

At an early age, Thomas and Tammy Smith were inspired by the work of their grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Smith who used innovative teaching models to build her students' character and interpersonal skills as well as core academic skills. Mrs. Smith taught disadvantaged children for 40 years in the Brentwood Public School District, Brentwood, New York. In 1999, she passed away. Inspired by her legacy and the effectiveness of her teaching strategies, Thomas and Tammy sought the support of a founding group of outstanding leaders committed to honoring the mission, values, and teaching philosophy to which Mrs. Elizabeth M. Smith dedicated her life.
