Employment Opportunities
The Smith Leadership Academy Charter Public School currently is seeking certified teachers with experience in urban education and an understanding of students with diverse needs for both full- and part-time positions. Founded in 2003 and located in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Boston, this middle school serves some 200-plus marginalized students from Boston's inner city, the majority of whom are of African-American, Latino or Caribbean-American descent.
For many of these students, the Academy is the first learning institution which has offered them a chance to succeed academically. Over the years, the Academy has seen a constant improvement in its MCAS scores in both English Language Arts and Math, and the latest test scores in the African-American subgroup show the Academy's scores to be at or above the Boston Public School scores as well as statewide scores in this subgroup.
Many of the Academy's graduates have been accepted into some of Boston elite high schools, including the city's exam schools, area parochial schools and private, suburban preparatory institutions. Now, the Academy's first graduates are seniors in high school and looking forward to college.
If interested in teaching at the Academy, please send a resume and a letter summarizing your experience with middle school students to:
