"Learning today . . . leading tomorrow." This is our slogan for teaching and nurturing Smith Leadership Academy students in preparation for the future. At the Academy, we know each and every student. We respect their individuality and challenge them to learn about themselves and to celebrate who they are. We engage students in rigorous and challenging academics and we also support and nourish their character development and growth. In the words of graduate Samson Abraha '06, "Smith Leadership Academy has shaped me into the strong young man I am today.

Our School Year
The Smith Leadership Academy operates 190 days per year and offers an extended school day program, running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Friday - an early release day to provide professional development time for teachers. The Academy also has a mandatory summer session for incoming 6th graders in which they receive remedial instruction in math and English as well as a tutorial on the high expectations and seven core values that are integral to the culture of the school.
Ways to Help
We welcome parents, community members, business people, professional athletes and artists among others who are willing to share their talents with our students. Here are a few areas in which the Academy could use help:
- Make a Donation
- Leader-to-Leader Program ― The Academy seeks community members representing a variety of professions to share their experiences through an interactive dialogue with the Academy’s students.
- Tutors — The Academy welcomes academic tutoring support from community members who would enjoy working one-on-one with our students.
- Administrative Assistance/Teachers’ Aides ― The Academy needs help with a variety of office and classroom tasks.
- Academy’s WishList― You can buy books and other requested items directly online through our Amazon wishlist.
